JR Dill Winery is a beautifully designed winery located on the East banks of Seneca Lake. Their warm and family-operated approach to doing business is very indicative of the Finger Lakes region’s artisan culture. The family owned and operated winery has been producing high quality wines for over 25 years and has become one of the most well-known wineries in the region.
Overall, JR Dill Winery offers an impressive array of wines that cater to a wide variety of tastes. Whether you prefer reds, whites, sweet, or dry, this tasting room has something that everyone can enjoy.
Red Wines
JR Dill Winery produces a nice variety of red wines. Because of the cooler climate of the Finger Lakes, red wines are not as common in the region. It takes a lot of talent, persistence and plain old good luck to produce noteworthy red wines in this region. JR Dill Winery, through its 25 plus years of experience, has achieved this task perfectly. If you are a red wine fan, JR Dill Winery is a must visit destination.
The DeChaunac 2018 is a personal favorite. This unique grapes produces a deep and alluring red wine with notes of raisins, raspberries and cherries. The DeChaunac grape is not commonly found in the Finger Lakes, and is a must try for red wine lovers.
Their Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc blend is their most popular red wine. Cab Franc, a common grape in the Finger Lakes region, blends beautifully with Cab Sav. The crisp, tannic flavors balance out nicely with fuller body, fruit forward characteristics of Cab Sav. This blend produces a wine with aromas of currants and spice, flavors of raspberries and blueberries with an earthy spice finish.
JR Dill Winery also produces a variety of other noteworthy red wines. Their Pinot Noir is medium-bodied with hints of cherry and earthy undertones, this wine is perfect for sipping on its own or pairing with light meats and cheeses. The Maréchal Foch is a full-bodied red wine with hints of blackberry and chocolate, this variety is not as well known as some others but is certainly a crowd-pleaser.
White Wines
Riesling is one of JR Dill Winery's most famous wines, and it's easy to see why. With a crisp, clean finish and a honeyed, floral aroma, the Riesling is truly one of the vineyard's standout flavors. It pairs wonderfully with poultry, seafood, and salads, making it a versatile wine that can be enjoyed at any time of day.
If you're looking for a sweet wine, try the Vidal Blanc. This white wine has a pronounced honey flavor, making it the perfect way to round out a meal or to sip on a summer afternoon.
The Cayuga White Rise is JR Dill’s best seller. It’s a crisp and fruity sparkling wine. Cayuga White Rise is made with a hybrid grape, Cayuga, which tends to be sweeter and is perfectly balanced out by the addition of small bubbles from the carbonation process. This is another wonderful wine for summertime sipping!
Experience
Upon entering the tasting room, you will be greeted by the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the winery. You will get to know the history of the vineyard and the meticulous winemaking process. The tasting room has a clear view into the wine making facilities, where you can frequently see Jeff, the owner, producing the next impressive wine.
Their patio has a stunning view of Seneca Lake and is a popular draw to visitors and locals alike. The umbrella dotted patio and breeze from Seneca Lake provides the perfect reprieve from the hot summer sun, and a perfect place to have a glass (or bottle) of wine!
