Glenora is a well established & respected winery in the Seneca Lake AVA. Gene Pierce, owner, founded Glenora Wine Cellars in 1976, just after the passing of the Farm Winery Act, making them the oldest, legal, winery on Seneca Lake. Since then, Glenora has grown into a complete destination, with the addition of their chef run restaurant, Veraisons, a lodging facility, tasting room & jazz concerts.

Glenora’s Wines

Glenora has a wide variety of wines, from the Finger Lakes’ #1 varietal, Riesling, to some more unique options like their Wondrous Watermelon wine. If you ask, most of the employees will likely offer their favorite as Glenora’s FLX Dry Riesling. Their Riesling wine is made from grapes sourced from multiple vineyard sites in the Finger Lakes (the owner of Glenora has deep roots around Seneca Lake & owns multiple vineyards), allowing you for a true representation of a Finger Lakes’ Riesling. Best of all, their FLX Dry Riesling is priced right around $13.

Other notable wines featured by Glenora are the Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc & their Gewurztraminer. These white wines are processed in a variety of methods, including a very unique egg shaped fermentation tank, which imparts a rounder mouthfeel, you might expect from oaked wines, without the oaky flavor.

In reds, they offer a crisp, stainless steel only Cabernet Franc, oak aged Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese (rare in the cool Finger Lakes climate), Merlot & Syrah. In addition to these single varietal wines, they offer blended wines, balancing key attributes from each grape.

Outside Seating

Glenora highlights incredible views of their vineyards’ canopy flowing down to Seneca Lake with Adirondack style chairs. They have also recently added an outdoor deck onto their tasting room, offering an elevated view of Seneca Lake, while being close to all of the action.

What the locals are saying

Glenora is the place to go mid day to relax & have a glass of wine on their deck. Their wines are good quality & priced very reasonably. They are not too far up from Watkins Glen, but just far enough away to feel like an escape from the daily grind.

Stop at Glenora to experience the oldest winery on Seneca Lake & to enjoy affordable, good quality wine with incredible views.
